About the Somali
Essentially a long-haired Abyssinian, arising from a recessive gene for longer hair and developed into a distinct breed in the mid-20th century. Fine-boned and athletic, with a full, fox-like brush tail and a ticked coat.
Temperament
Active, playful, and intelligent, the Somali shares much of the Abyssinian's energy but is often a touch more easygoing.

- Progressive retinal atrophy
- Patellar luxation
- Gingivitis
Grooming needs
The medium-long coat has minimal undercoat and resists matting, but benefits from a couple of brushings a week.
