In adulthood, the priority for a Somali shifts toward maintaining an ideal body weight through portion-controlled meals and plenty of active play, climbing opportunities, and puzzle feeders to match its naturally energetic nature. The medium-long coat has minimal undercoat and resists matting, but benefits from a couple of brushings a week. Pairing this with a yearly wellness exam and routine dental checks helps catch subtle changes early, even while the cat seems to be thriving.

In adult Somali cats, it's worth staying alert for early signs such as increased thirst, changes in urination, or lethargy tied to kidney or liver function or clumsiness in dim light, dilated pupils, or reluctance to jump onto familiar surfaces. These can be subtle at first, so raising them during an annual exam rather than waiting for them to worsen is a sensible approach given this breed's health background.
