Balinese

High activity Lifespan: 10-15 years

About the Balinese

Essentially a long-haired Siamese, arising from a natural mutation and developed into a distinct breed in the mid-20th century. Elegant and tubular in body shape, with pointed coloration and a silky coat that lies close to the body rather than standing out fluffy.

Temperament

Vocal, social, and intelligent, the Balinese forms strong attachments to its people and often 'talks' in a softer voice than its Siamese relatives.

Common health issues

  • Progressive retinal atrophy
  • Amyloidosis
  • Asthma or respiratory sensitivity
  • Crossed eyes (strabismus)

Grooming needs

The silky single coat has little undercoat and rarely mats, so twice-weekly brushing keeps it smooth.
