Himalayan

Low activity Lifespan: 9-15 years

About the Himalayan

Developed by crossing Persians with Siamese to combine the Persian's long coat and body type with Siamese pointed coloration; some registries treat it as a Persian color variety rather than a separate breed. Stocky and cobby, with a luxurious long coat and striking blue eyes.

Temperament

Gentle, sweet-natured, and calm, the Himalayan enjoys quiet affection and a relaxed home environment, much like the Persian.

Common health issues

  • Polycystic kidney disease
  • Brachycephalic airway issues
  • Dental malocclusion
  • Progressive retinal atrophy

Grooming needs

The long, dense coat mats easily and needs daily brushing, along with regular attention to the face and eyes.
