About the British Longhair

A long-haired counterpart to the British Shorthair, sharing the same sturdy, round body type but carrying a semi-long, plush coat. Depending on the registry, it is treated either as a related breed or as a coat variety of the British Shorthair.

Temperament

Calm, affectionate, and easygoing, the British Longhair shares its shorthaired relative's relaxed approach to household life.

Common health issues

  • Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
  • Polycystic kidney disease
  • Obesity

Grooming needs

The semi-long, plush coat mats more readily than the shorthaired version and benefits from a few brushings each week.
