In adulthood, the priority for a Japanese Bobtail shifts toward maintaining an ideal body weight through portion-controlled meals and plenty of active play, climbing opportunities, and puzzle feeders to match its naturally energetic nature. The short (or, in the longhaired variety, medium-length) coat sheds little and needs only occasional brushing. Pairing this with a yearly wellness exam and routine dental checks helps catch subtle changes early, even while the cat seems to be thriving.

In adult Japanese Bobtail cats, it's worth staying alert for early signs such as bad breath, drooling, or reluctance to eat hard food or weight gain, reduced activity, or difficulty reaching certain spots to groom. These can be subtle at first, so raising them during an annual exam rather than waiting for them to worsen is a sensible approach given this breed's health background.
