Provide a steady mix of interactive play sessions and quiet downtime suited to its moderate energy level, since cats at this age typically have energy to spare. Keep up the grooming habits introduced in kittenhood so they remain a normal, low-stress part of handling.

It's still uncommon at this age to see clear signs of the conditions American Shorthair cats are predisposed to, but it doesn't hurt to ask a vet whether early baseline screening makes sense. Keep an eye out for lethargy, rapid or labored breathing, reduced appetite, or fainting spells, or weight gain, reduced activity, or difficulty reaching certain spots to groom, and mention anything unusual at routine visits.
